Wonderful Evening~Amazing Speaker~Eddie George

Friday night, Boyd Christian School was honored to have Eddie George as our Keynote Speaker for the Annual Spring Banquet held at the Bridgestone Learning Center.

I will be the first to admit I do not have much football experience~or any sports experience for that matter~but I was looking forward to meeting Eddie George...NOT as excited as I will be if I ever get the opportunity to hear him speak again because...HE WAS AMAZING!!! He was so inspirational, genuine, funny, and gracious. He is simply beautiful inside and out.

My partner, Dachelle McVey and I had the honor of making a cake for the football legend. We were running extremely late getting back to the dinner and Mr. George was bombarded by people. He sat down at his table with his young son and agent and I walked over, introduced myself, and asked if I could get a picture with him, Dachelle, and the cake. He so graciously agreed, and although I told him whenever it was convenient for him, he proceeded to tell me it was not a problem and he would like to see the cake he had heard about. We walked over with his young son, and they were both excited and amazed at the cake...well, you can see the look on his son's face.LOL~priceless. He asked about the structure of the cake and complimented us on it as well. I cannot tell you how special he made Dachelle and I feel in that very instant. He also mentioned it when he got up to speak, and told me again later that evening how good it was.

I was truly honored, not because of who he is, but because he is an awesome person making a difference in others lives, with an amazing story to tell, and an uncanny ability to make everyone around him feel as if they matter, and are important too. Thank you Eddie George!!!!!

What a wonderful Sneak Preview we had on February 12Th and it has been non stop orders and events ever since!!! We are truly blessed beyond measure. Thanks to everyone for your support and encouragement. We will be officially opening March 1, 2011 and will celebrate the week with a birthday tribute to Dr. Seuss. We will have an entire selection of Dr. Seuss inspired cupcakes. All your Seuss favorites will be on display in all their vibrant colors and delicious flavors...The Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who, Green Eggs and Ham, Thing 1 and Thing 2, and many, many more!!! Our Cappuccino and Espresso machines arrived today, so we will have your caffeine as well as your sugar fix covered!lol

It is official....the new cakery will be called "Sugar Rush". We will be open February 12th for a limited sneak peek. The downtown community is nothing short of AMAZING. New Bakery Opening SOON!!!

Dachelle McVey and Kelly Roberts are teaming up to open a bakery in beautiful downtown McMinnville, Tennessee. The bakery, which has yet to be named, will be located in the old Capalanos building. We are super excited about our new venture, and will offer speciality cakes, a cupcake bar, and various other desserts and treats. I will let you all know when we will officially be open. We are shooting for February 12, in conjunction with the festivities scheduled downtown for Valentines Day as a sneak preview, with a grand opening to shortly follow. Jackie Powers ordered a special cake for her daughter Courtney's birthday. She is a fashionista so we decided to give Courtney her own shoe line: Courtney Couture! A Pina Colada Cake is surrounded by a chocolate "box" that is hand painted with royal icing. The hot pink chocolate shoe boasts the same royal icing flower design as the box. Happy Birthday to one of the sweetest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet....Miss Ashlee Reep! Ashlee's mother contacted me a few weeks ago and wanted to surprise Ashlee with a unique chocolate cake. I decided to do a triple chocolate cake inside a Tiffany blue chocolate "bag" filled with chocolate clay tissue paper and decorated with chocolate clay an royal icing adornments. Nested inside the "tissue paper" is a Tiffany blue chocolate acorn box that holds a special gift for the birthday girl: a "Happy Birthday" ribbon banner, and a silver peace sign charm. This cake was designed by one of the loves of my life, my beautiful daughter Shelby Rae who turned 9 on January 3rd. Shelby wanted a winter themed, snowflake cake. The cake was chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla with buttercream frosting, sugar pearls, and adorned with royal icing snowflakes with a shimmer of luster dust added. Shelby has plans of one day taking over my cake business, as well as, being a Veteinarian~yeah, she's mine!lol A wonderful time was had by all at the skating party. Royal Icing Snowflakes

Shelby has been designing her "my super sweet 9th" Birthday cake for a couple of weeks now. She wants a winter themed cake in shades of blue and white with snowflakes and snowmen. I don't think I have ever made royal icing in my life, but it was surprisingly simple and easy to work with. Would've been even easier if I had some wax paper and templates to cheat from!lol Anyway, here are the snowflakes...I think they turned out pretty good for my first time, and seeing as how they are all hand piped originals....now if they will just hold together long enough to put some bling on Shelby's cake. BTW~These need to be sprinkled with luster dust to make them shine....was going to add clear sprinkles, but was out of those too!LOL Shelby came to me as I was piping the snowflakes and said "mom, I THINK that is ENOUGH snowflakes"....you all know me~go big or don't go!!! xoxoxox

Coupon Fraud

Coupon Fraud

It has come to my attention there is some coupon fraud, and also at the very least coupon abuse, going on in Warren County. In the coming weeks you are going to see some changes in the way stores choose to accept coupons.
Kroger coupons(which are manufacturers coupons) you load to your card will no longer be combined with hard copy manufacturers coupons. You were never suppose to be able to do that, but as we all know, it was possible. Not anymore.
Please do not give the cashier, or the manager, any grief over this, it was NEVER intended to be this way.
Take time to learn exactly what constitutes "coupon fraud". It could save you a lot of headaches, or being barred from the store, not to mention jail time, and very steep fines. Also, PLEASE be courteous of other shoppers. Do not completely clean out store shelves. If you need more than a handfull of an item, the manager will be more than happy to order it for you by the case....just ask. Everyone needs to save money right now.
I cannot believe how such a good thing is going to quickly turn into a thing of the past. One person can ruin it for everyone. This is a small town, people will eventually figure out who you are.

My friend has a sweet little Yorkie in need of rescuing, love, and a good home. This 4lb, approximately 4 year old baby has been Vet checked and has received a clean bill of health. These little dogs are loyal and will provide you with more love than you can ever imagine. Happy 11th Birthday to Natalie Knox! Wow how the time has flown by...it seems like only yesterday Natalie and my daughter Reagan were starting kindergarten together, and now they are in 5th grade. Natalie gave me a PEACE theme, a color scheme, and had one other request "make it two layers". She was super excited to see this monster come through the door. I "zebra stripped" the cake batter so she would have a nice surprise when the cake was cut. I hope I helped make your day a special one Natalie....I love you sweetie!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out last night to the Creative Couponing Class in support of Boyd Christian School. I would like to extend a very sincere thank you to Margaret Hobbs for joining us and bringing a large box of coupon inserts compliments of the Southern Standard.....that was a HUGE hit! We had such a wonderful, fun filled evening and hopefully everyone learned how to maximize their coupons while enjoying punch, cupcakes, and door prizes. Another "special thanks" goes out to Holly Goolsby Hodges and her Parents for the boxes of sausage donated for us to use as a couple of our door prizes. The Goolsby's are a tremendous blessing to our school and I can personally NEVER thank you enough for all you do. The feedback has been absolutely amazing, and another class is already in the works! Next time we are going to do some real world scenarios where Register Rewards are concerned, because that is what people have the most trouble understanding. btw~I ran into a girl that attended the coupon class in the parking lot of Kroger this afternoon. She had her binder, coupons, and notes from the class. She was so proud, saved right at 50%...but guess what, she wasn't half as proud as I was of her though!!!

Ok, I am on a total "Coupon High"!lol I saved....are you sitting down... a whopping 107%!!!!Kroger actually PAID ME to take this stuff home. Yeah, I only made $.74 cents, but look at what all I got. I did this by combining: A great sale+ coupons, a rain check, and 3 Catalina ($8.50 total) "thank you " coupons from the last visit. It will probably NEVER happen again, but I am so excited, and thankful, it happened once.

I recently started taking pics of my savings and have been posting them on Facebook. If you are not couponing, you might want to ask yourself~why not after seeing these next pics. Yes, it does take time but is well worth the effort. Well, see for yourself why I say it is worth it....

The 2 pictures below are from my first Kroger visit this week. $275.25 worth of groceries for $113 and I received $4 towards my next purchase! My biggest fan is cheesin in the background!lol

I also went back to Kroger a couple more times this week because the girls are in VBS and I had the opportunity to rack up some more savings. This is $90 worth for $35

The Inn at Harvest Farms Lake is without a doubt one of my favorite places to be. Today, which was a BEAUTIFUL, bright blue, breezy day, just perfect for a wedding by the lake, I had the pleasure of delivering a cake to the Inn....well, a few cakes.

The wedding cake was a 4 tiered white cake w/buttercream frosting, wrapped in a layer of handpainted fondant. The grooms cake is the Neyland Stadium field, home of the University of Tennessee Vols. It was a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream fillng, buttercream frosting, and decorated with candy clay.

Nashville Flood Relief Drive: HUGE SUCCESS!

Thank you to everyone who came out to ET Cetera yesterday and donated to the Flood Relief effort. I am proud to announce 200+ cases of water made it's way to the victims of last weeks flood in Nashville. Also, we gathered numerous baby care items and baby food, which will be sent to "Babes for Babies" a flood relief effort started by my friend Krysta Swann Sherrill.

Planning is already in the works for another relief drive and will be announced no later than the first of the week. The focus will be on Hickman County, an area of Middle Tennessee, that sustained a multitude of damage. A girl I went to school with lives there and will make sure the money goes to needy families in that rural area.

Winners of the Relief Drive Giveaway are: April Roberts, Pandora Starter Bracelet; and Melissa Dorrell, Sterling Silver 3 strand w/beads necklace.

Thank you all so much for making this last minute drive a HUGE success!!!!!!!

I had the pleasure of assisting Karen Moore and her Sunday School girls the "Bluebells" in preparing for their competetion this past Saturday in Chattanooga. I am HAPPY to say their spring daisey, dot, and bee cake took home first place!!!!!!!! The girls had to decorate the cake ALL by THEMSELVES and they did a fine job!!!! I am so proud! The other cake they did was the Princess and the Frog. Ok...I don't have a green thumb, but even I have a pretty bloom every once in a while!lol This rose is a newbie, a gift from my mother, of which I have received about 6 of this year, Knockout Roses. They are very beautiful and I am hoping I won't kill them. The other is my FAVORITE flower~the Tulip....of which a few years ago I planted about a MILLION of them, and this year only a few peeked their little heads out :(. The yard mowing chickie is my oldest, Reagan. She loves to mow the yard and Big Daddy lets her. BTW~ she mows AT THE YARD....she doesn't get the whole mow in line/get ALL the grass concept~LOL~ I just LOVED that pic and wanted to throw it in. There has been a lot of interest in how I organize my coupons so I thought I would share it with all my blog followers. Like most everyone else I tried using the accordian file, which only frustrated me trying to locate my coupons, and fumbling through them over, and over, and over in the store, until I found the one I was needing at the moment. I really wanted them where I could see all the coupons I had for whatever product(s) I was purchasing. So, I took my black 3 ring zip binder/organizer left over from my days working at the Chamber, added some dividers, trading card sleeves & photo sleeves, and revamped it into one HANDY DANDY coupon orgainizing apparatus. Since I do the majority of my shopping at Kroger (cause they double coupons everyday) I set my organizer up to reflect the products on the store aisles, but you can set yours up to however it benefits, or makes the most sense, to you. Yes, this takes a little time on the front end, but saves time and needless frustration at the grocery store. I leave the front photo sleeve empty to hold the coupons I pull throughout the store in order to save time at the register....the folks behind you will appreciate that greatly!lol Five couponing tips I would like to pass along: 1. If you have a "buy $$$, take $$$ off your purchase" use these FIRST, because if you use the other coupons first you may not have enough of a bill to use these types of coupons at the end of the purchase. 2. Always use your "buy one get one free" coupons at the END of the transaction. This way you can use 2 regular coupons for your BOGO products and still get one free-it is like doubling up a coupon on the first product and getting the second free. #3 You can use store coupons ex. RiteAid or Walgreens, and also a manufactures coupon together~doubling the bang for your buck. 4. Sign up at RiteAid.com~ you cannot believe the savings you will be entitled to. For instance, yesterday I earned $5 off a $20 purchase watching commercials, and received $36 in free coupons all while I applied my makeup for the day! Reagan Callie Roberts is the BIG 1-0 today! 10 years ago today I was blessed with a perfect, healthy, baby girl. She had such a head full of black hair~ I always tell her "there are monkey's born with less hair than you"...LOL I do LOVE my GIRLIES~and they are growing up way too fast. Praise be to God for my wonderful babies~well, my big girls now. Happy Birthday Reagan Callie!!!

I thought I would have all day to work on her cake but found out at 8:00 am this morning it had to be there by 11....NICE. Did I mention the only thing I had started on this was the cakes were baked? Yeah. Reagan LOVES Pokemon and this is the one she said was the "cutest"....she has no idea she is getting a cake, much less a "Happiny" Pokemon one. This "Happiny" Pokemon cake was decorated in a record 1.5 hours! It looks it too!LOL Anyway, it turned out better than I expected when I started on it at 9:00.

Jacob Garms is 8!!! Happy Birthday Jacob! Jacob had his party at the ball field after his game today. His mom text me to inform me he didn't want to cut his baseball trophy cake because it would "mess it up"!LOL They ended up saving the ball for later. So, me being me, had to put a little spin on the ant and made it well, exterminated!lol This was atleast 2.5' long...it was a HUGE cake....and when they cut it guess what color cake they will find? Faux Fondant Sample Cake

Here is a 6" sample cake I made for a "tasting" held last night. The couple wanted the look of fondant without the taste of fondant, so I attempted to do a faux fondant buttercream and it turned out pretty smooth for it being the first time. The piping was a rush job done with the same buttercream (really too thick for piping) only tinted, and was ONLY for COLOR EXACTING purposes and not to show a finished product example~so take it easy on me!LOL The cake was a 4 layer white cake with buttercream frosting~and it passed the taste test! yeah!!!! I also took a sampling of MY FONDANT, and the future bride and groom liked it so much they decided to go with a hand painted fondant wedding cake. What a compliment!!!

Hello ladies! Many of you already know that my sister, Emily Hobbs, is headed to Jackson, Tennessee to participate in the Miss Tennessee Pageant this year. We are all so excited!

Presenting Mr. and Mrs. David Wood....

When my friend Angel called and asked me to do a cake for her wedding I told her I "don't do sheet cakes" she laughed and said she didn't want a sheet cake she wanted something different. I am all about something different, so I readily agreed...and it didn't hurt anything that I really like her and the groom...David and I graduated together. This cake was 100% edible right down to the ribbon, bows, and monogram. French Vanilla cake with buttercream frosting layered with white chocolate, milk chocolate curls, chocolate ribbon and bows, and candy ribbon with candy flowers with a candy pearl in the center. Thank goodness this thing made it there in one piece...and everyone loved it~whew! Congratulations Angel and David....xoxoxoxox

The past weekend was so beautiful. I wish everyday could be that sunny and nice. I did manage to get in a few paintings Saturday night...I know....I lead the EXCITING life. LOL The bathtub one I want to try again on...I am not happy with the girl, but with watercolor there isn't much of a second chance. The fish look like they are gossiping...maybe they are just getting in some "fish tales". Yeah, that was pretty bad. UPDATE FROM ERIC BONNER Thursday, February 11: I just left UT Hospital. I want to be as clear and concise with this update as I can be. I am not a doctor, of course, and want to make 100% sure that I don't misrepresent anything:Elisa is in critical care. I got to see her and pray with her and for her about an hour ago. Her mom and Barry were also there. She squeezed my hand with her left hand. I told her that all the Warren County folks loved her like crazy and that literally thousands are praying for her and look forward to seeing her back at school.Her prognosis seems pretty good insofar as leaving the hospital is concerned, but even that will be a long, long way off. She suffered two differed entry wounds. One exited and did some damage to the spleen and lung. The other lodged in the 10th vertabrae. They won't even think of trying to dislodge it for fear of more damage being done. There is paralysis from the waist down. The doctor has said that "recovery from that is unlikely but that miracles do happen." That is pretty much a direct quote.... Elisa is being sedated by the doctors. I don't know exactly the thought there. Maybe you medical folks can make some inferences on that one. Maybe pertaining to shock. I really don't know about that.There is an issue with one of her lungs that has been compromised somewhat. Not as severe as a collapsed lung, but something they are certainly having to monitor. As far as the particulars of her physical condition, that's the most clear assessment I can give.Barry is "Husband Of The Year." (I am not even in the running by the way. Ha. Trying to laugh to keep from crying.) He is so in love with her, kissing all over her, just the best ever. He's in shock and has not slept since this first happened. He's running on pure, pure adreniline. Pray for him and for Elisa's mom and dad. I cannot imagine how surreal this is for all of them.The secondary issues for the family are: the intense media attention surrounding all of this; the criminal / legal aspect; the SCORES of students, teachers, friends and church members AT the hospital and on the phone. The family is in a complete fog and overwhelmed. Then the obvious matter of the ......... anger - - makes me so damned mad I can barely type it myself. The senselessness of it all. I'll just leave that alone for now.I'll keep everyone posted as best I can. PRAY PRAY PRAY PRAY PRAY!

Would any of you fellow bloggers like to take part in a little Artist Trading Card swap? I saw this little pack of assorted art paper 2.5" x 3.5" at Hobby Lobby a while back and was very interested as to what they were used for. Well, I came home and Googled it and found that people all over the world paint and trade these little cards to other artists....they even meet in various cities monthly to trade art with fellow artists! I just never knew. Well, anyway, I would LOVE to start trading little pieces of art and I am looking for some folks to trade with. Here are the rules:

The art can be any medium: oil, acrylic, watercolor, decopage, rubber stamp, 3D decorated (scrapbook type) whatever you love to work with.

The size must be 2.5" X 3.5" and art paper only. You do not have to buy a pack of cards, you can cut a regular sheet of art paper to size.

I would like for you to paint or decorate the card with whatever you love to paint/decorate the best.

The other day I spent a couple of hours at Bridgestone showing some ladies how to make bows and origami ornaments. We had a wonderful time. The conversation quickly turned to when we would do it again and all the things they would like to learn how to make.

For some time now I have been thinking of starting a "SIPS and STROKES" type class here in Warren and surrounding counties. For those of you unfamiliar with "SIPS and STROKES", it is where small groups of people get together and paint their own canvases in about a couple of hours. The only difference is I want to do more than just share my love of painting, I want to teach people how to do all sorts of arts and crafts. What fun...spending quality time with friends, laughing and having a wonderful evening creating not only a painting, or craft project, but a great memory. It also makes a great present. Instead of the usual kids birthday party, imagine giving them the gift of an art or crafting lesson, and a sentimental gift for everyone to take home and enjoy for years to come.

Here is how it works: I supply all the materials needed for your craft, come to your location, set up, and clean up, for a flat fee per person depending on the desired project. Paint, Canvas, brushes, easels, aprons, etc...all materials .are provided. I will have the canvas sketched out with your pre-chosen design, ready to be embellished however you choose, or with my help, as I will be in front of the group painting, creating, and directing, each step of the way.

Birthday parties, company team building outings, church groups, holiday crafting parties...any occasion you can imagine!

Some of the crafting sessions soon available: Rag Quilt in an afternoon, smocking, scrapbooking, sewing, and the list goes on and on!

Snowman Sunday....

This has been a very busy Thanksgiving weekend. Thanksgiving day, Black Friday, house cleaning, tree trimming, and getting ready for the Craft Fair on Friday and Saturday at Covenant Academy in Morrison...WHEW! Sunday was very productive....4 ornaments and 4 paintings. Here is what I like to call Snowman Sunday.

I have been holding on to these empty coffee canisters for some time now. Originally, I intended to cover them w/scrapbook paper and use for storage, but I have had a better idea: Cover them w/scrapbook paper and use for housing, and delivering, my Christmas Cookie gifts. Imagine these with a beautiful ribbon and hand stamped tag...I will post a pic of the finished product when I get ready to give as gifts. You could even paint the black rim a different color if you wanted.
